About the India Programme and Eligibility Criteria

‘Compassion for Orphans’ is enlisted by the Central Adoption Resource Authority (CARA) India to process intercountry adoption cases between New Zealand and India however we are currently not accepting applications for this programme. We are closely monitoring adoptions from India being conducted under new guidelines established by CARA prior to commencing this programme.

Note: Despite the Indian Central Authority’s (CARA) guidelines that children 0-3 years of age can be adopted, unless you are of Indian Descent, the waiting list is very long. Most likely, children over 5 years of age, sibling groups or children defined under CARA's guidelines as having special needs will be available to applicants.
